Experience That Translates to Value

There is a big difference between Restoration, Refinishing and Repair. Before deciding which procedure to use on your furniture, the end result of each must be carefully understood and considered. Schoenbauer's four generations of experience mean our experts are able to counsel and educate you regarding the best way to restore value to your furniture. Then, we'll employ only the finest techniques and our specially formulated finishes to revitalize and restore your pieces to their original glory.

. Restoration
Restoration involves restoring furniture to its original beauty or condition. Large dents are generally filled and most major repairs are made. An effort is made to maintain the character of the wood. Small micro dents are generally left. The surface of the wood is cleaned and some of the marks can be removed. However, a combination of the small micro dents and some age marks provide the furniture with character (history).

. Refinishing
While the Restoration process is mainly used on antiques and family heirlooms, Refinishing involves completely removing the original finish. Dents and scratches are removed before a durable finish is re-applied. Refinishing provides an almost new like finish to your furniture. However, because the character on the surface is removed, antiques can loose some of their value. Antiques are generally only refinished when the original finish is beyond Repair or the owner wishes to change the color of their furniture.

. Repair
Wood and other materials that split or crack can usually be pressed back together, supported and glued. Refinishing the area of the split can generally ensure that the crack is no longer visible. However, this area will always be susceptible to reoccurring do to changes in environment (such as humidity).
